Quilters' Acronyms

BOB = Beginner's Only Block (swap)
BOM = Block of the Month
DSM = Domestic Sewing Machine
DWR = Double Wedding Ring
FART = Fabric Aquisition Road Trip
FIU = Finish It Up
FQ = Fat Quarter
HST = Half-Square Triangle
HSY = Haven't Started Yet
LAQ= Long Arm Quilter
LQS = Local Quilt Shop
MAQ = Mid-Arm Quilter
OBW = One-Block Wonder
PHD = Project Half Done
PIGS = Projects in Grocery Sacks
SABLE = Stash Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy
SEX = Stash Enhancing eXperience (or eXcursion)
STASH = Special Treasures All Secretly Hidden

Quilters' Terms (Not Acronyms)

Charms - Small pieces of fabric in squares, hexagons or other shapes, all different fabrics. Charm packs are big sellers right now.
Fat Eighth - 1/4 yd of material, cut up the fold. About 9" x 22".
Fat Quarter - This is 1/2 yard of fabric with a cut up the fold, creating a piece about 18" x 22".
Flimsy - Quilt top waiting to be quilted
Frogging - or Unsewing. When you have to redo something and you "rippit, rippit, rippit."
Honey Buns - 1.5" x 44" strips of fabric all from one line. Currently made by Moda.
Jelly Roll - 2-1/2" strips of fabric from an entire line.
Layer Cake - This is a 10" square of fabric from each material in the line.
Leaders and Enders - Chain piecing at the beginning and end of another project row. Essentially making two quilts at once and being efficient.
Nickel - A 5" square of fabric.
Squishie - Envelopes or baggies filled with swap fabric or blocks.
YoYo - A circle of fabric which is gathered to form a puffy circle.
